The Oakland Band has a proud tradition of excellence in music education and competition. We hope you will find this site useful as a band booster or member, and if you are new to the program, or a prospective student, here is a little about what we do:
Marching Band – The marching band performs for all Oakland football games and travels to various band competitions. This group will rehearse after school during the fall of the school year.
Concert Band – Concert bands are offered for those students with at least one year’s experience on a band instrument. These groups rehearse during the school day and perform concerts throughout the school year.
Jazz Band – Jazz Band will be offered as an early morning class and will perform at Jazz Festivals and community events throughout the year. If you are interested in this ensemble contact Mr. Jessup for more information.
Percussion Ensemble – This group will rehearse during the winter and spring months of the year. They will perform at various concerts and community events.
Color Guard / Winter Guard - This is a section consisting of flags, rifles, sabres, and dancers. Membership is by audition only. In the Fall semester these performers are part of the marching band. In the Spring semester the group performs as an indoor national competing unit. Participation in both Fall Marching Band and Spring Winter Guard are required for membership. Sign up for 6th period Auxiliary class.
Chamber Groups – This is a select group of students with membership by audition only. These groups provide an excellent opportunity to expand the student’s musical skills.
Private Lessons – One area that helps build a strong band program is private instruction. Students will have the opportunity to improve their individual musicianship by studying with a private instructor on his/her instrument.
